How to Spend $0 at the Airport

These days when getting ready for a flight, you leave extra early to get to the airport in time. We’re told to get there anywhere between 90 minutes to 3 hours before your flight departure. Do you ever wonder.. is this really necessary? I guess it depends on what airport you’re going to, because those TSA lines could be horrible. You just never know if you’re gonna be in that line for 20 minutes or an hour and 20 minutes. But let’s say you breeze right on through within 20 minutes, and now you still have about 2 hours before your flight leaves. You’re bound to wonder around, and spend some money on food, drinks, and unnecessary items. Well…. stop it!

Most people aren’t aware of the things you actually can take through security. They scare you so much with the whole liquid rule thing, and throwing away your water bottle that you forgot was in your purse. You don’t want to do anything or carry anything that will jeopardize them letting you through freely. Well, you can take FOOD! So why not pack your lunch? Nothing with liquid, like soup or something, but I’ve taken sandwiches many many times. A good sandwich and chips should get you through the next couple of hours or so. Fruit, granola bars, cookies, crackers, etc.

Now I bet you’re gonna need something to drink right? Well BYOB! Bring your own (empty) bottle or cup. Like this one.

In some airports, you will find a water bottle filling station outside the restrooms. Free water! No more spending $5 for a bottle of water at the airport.

So there you have it! If you’re tired of giving your money to Hartsfield-Jackson (like me) bring your own snacks. Plan ahead, and you will be successful.

Lastly, you may want to check out the app, {MyTSAapp}. It shows you the average wait time for security checkpoints, any delays at the airport, list of permitted items for checked and carry on baggage, etc. It also will allow you to sign up for TSA Pre check. Download today and check it out!

Happy Friday!
