$6 Flights

Can you imagine paying $5.60 to fly to California, New York, or Florida?  I can, and I have..  Thanks to my friends at Southwest Airlines.

If you have been following my posts, you can probably guess by now who my favorite Airline is. And if you haven’t guessed, I’m telling you now… Southwest Airlines is my favorite, and here’s why.

Back in 2015 after my flight to Cancun, I signed up for Southwest Rapid Rewards frequent flyer program.  At that moment, I just figured I might as well sign up.  It was free, and I had nothing to lose, and I gain points for flying.  A year passed, and I finally gave into signing up for the Southwest Credit Card.  Now believe me.. I did NOT want another credit card at the time, but those 50,000 points they were advertising sounded sooooooo good.  After spending the required minimum amount in 3 months, I got my 50,000 points!  And let me tell you… it has been wonderful!

I’ll give you a quick breakdown of how it works..

  • You earn 2 points per $1 spent of Southwest purchases and Rapid Rewards Hotel and Car Rental Partner purchases.
  • You earn 1 point per $1 spent on all other purchases.
  • You get 3,000 bonus points after your Cardmember anniversary

When you are ready to purchase a flight with your points, all you have to pay is $5.60, which is some kind of Sept. 11th security fee (they add this on every flight purchased). And you also get points for flying with your points! The best thing about using the point system in my opinion, is the cancellation process.  Let’s say you see a cheap flight, and you quickly book it with your points, only to find out a week before your departure, you can’t go.  You can easily go to the website, or app, and cancel your flight.  Your points go back to your account, and your $5.60 is refunded to your card.  No more settling for flight credits… just give me my money and points back, please and thank you!

So if you are wanting to travel more, and you can afford to get a credit card, consider getting one that gives you travel rewards.  Southwest is just one that I personally love, but there are several out there to choose from.  If you truly believe that you are financially responsible, credit cards are nothing to be afraid of.   You just have to make the card work for you, and not against you.

Have a Marvelous Monday!
